CLASS DESCRIPTION
If you’ve ever voiced the statement “I just want to paint flowers”, then this expressive watercolor painting workshop is the perfect choice to nurture that desire! Loosen up, leave your inner critic at home and come paint beautiful dramatic petals and blooms full of impressionistic, abstract and vivid imagery. Learn simple brush strokes to master your own natural movements to render petals, stems and leaf shapes and to create dramatic, bold florals. We’ll paint very loose and expressive to make flower images that come alive with simple brushwork and rich, vibrant color. Explore creative techniques for adding surprising textures to background washes and color stories as you experiment with process techniques and ideas. Take home a large, handbound painted, illustrated flower book on premium watercolor paper that will leave you beaming!
SUPPLIES: 2 sheets 22”x30” Arches or Fabriano cold press, 140lb paper, 140Canson XL Mixed Media 7”x10” sketchbook, pan set of your favorite, good quality watercolor paints (Joanne uses Daniel Smith tube paints in a portable palette by Heritage), #8 and #14 round watercolor brushes (suggested brands are Simply Simmons, Princeton, Escoda Versatil, daVinci), pencil and eraser, bone folder, Tombow Dual Brush marker color #N75 and #992, 2 small water containers, paint rag/cloth and a kitchen sponge (new).
WATERCOLOR PAINT SUGGESTIONS: Bring “better”, (artist grade if possible) watercolor paints for quality results in your artwork shown in the samples. No craft store paints!
STUDENT GRADE: Suggested brands are Koi by Sakura or Prima Confections.
ARTIST GRADE: If you are new to watercolor, Holbein, Daniel Smith or Winsor Newton, Schmincke, QOR by Golden.
Joanne’s essential colors in the 18 well Heritage Art palette include Daniel Smith paints: French ultramarine, green gold, opera rose, quinacridone rose, quinacridone gold, imperial purple, bronzite genuine, hansa yellow medium, sap green, pyrrol orange, phthalo blue RS, permanent alizarin crimson, transparent brown oxide, and Schmincke cobalt turquoise.
