  • Learn how to make a journal of your travels by doing your first one in reverse!  Starting with photos from your favorite trip we will work each week on a page or two focusing on layout and composition to tell the story of one of your trips!  This class will be media agnostic.  If you work in pencil, ink, watercolor or mixed media we’ll work together to break down story telling in a journal so that on your next big trip you are ready to spend a little time each day documenting  your trip live.

Supplies Needed:

Art supplies for the media of your choosing

Photos from a recent trip to work from

A watercolor sketchbook approx. 5×8” I like 140lb paper it stands up to all different approaches

You will have your own 6 foot table in class.  Masks are required

Carl Stoveland is an artist and photographer living and working in Lake Worth, Florida. Carl is a founding Member of the Lake Worth Beach Urban Sketchers group and was 2020 Artist in residence at Dry Tortugas National Park where he and another artist lived off the grid entirely creating art and photography for the entire month of September.  One of Carl’s previous projects was the photo documentary exhibits IAMLAKEWORTH and IAMLAKEWORTHTOO that were displayed at the Hatch in 2018 and 2019. Carl was managing partner at Gallery Meraki in Garnerville, NY from 2014 to 2016 where he exhibited his own work as well as taught workshops in Photography and Photoshop.  His current passions are acrylic painting, Gouache and Urban Sketching.

Carl grew up in NY near the Catskill Mountains and found his passion for photography and painting hiking along the many trails and streams near his home.  His Dad spent his entire career working in photo labs and his mom is an oil painter and watercolorist.  So the apple did not fall far from the tree in this case.
