In this full-day class, we’ll take inspiration from Mexican Folk Art, Orthodox Icons, and more to make our own mixed media angels. (Not into angels? You can turn your figure into a fairy queen, or any strong male or female figure that you want on your canvas.) We’ll use collage, stencils, stamps, heat embossing, and a variety of other mixed media supplies and techniques as we make our collaged figure and background on an 12″ x 16″ canvas panel.

Students Should Bring:

  • A craft mat, baby wipes, scissors
  • A variety of papers, fabric scraps, ephemera, jewels, trims, etc… to build and accessorize your figure
  • Neutral collage papers and ephemera for your background
  • Acrylic Paint – a few favorite colors (you’ll probably want gold too)
  • Paint brushes (1″ and 1/2″ flat, detail brush, round brush – #4 is good)
  • Matte medium and a brush or sponge to apply it with plus an old credit or gift card
  • Glue or gel / heavy gel medium (I like E6000, LockTite Gel Control, and Tacky Glue)

Optional:

  • Embellishments for your figure
  • A face (about 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ or so – I’ll also have options available. We’ll adjust the body to match the proportions of the face)
  • Wings if desired (I’ll also have a few options to choose from)
  • Texture mediums – (I like Wendi Vecchi gold embossing paste) or a plain light molding paste like Golden.
  • Paints or supplies to add rusting and patina effects to metal if desired
  • Circular objects or diecuts to use as a halo if desired (I’ll also have a few options)
  • Liquid Pearls or dimensional paints, Stickles, etc… as desired
  • Colored pencils and / or watercolors to color your face and wings
  • Heat gun, favorite embossing powders, and a Teflon craft mat

Let's hear from you . . .
